Acting Course: Part 1
Today, I would like to share some thoughts about the course I launched in September 2024.
The idea behind this initiative was to unite people through the power of art. I strongly believe that the performing arts can help people to find themselves, transform people and support self-growth and self-esteem. Because I experienced this.
Being an immigrant several times in my life, I know how difficult it is to integrate, find friends, and discover your community - and twice art was a tool that helped me with these. I arrived in a new country once again in 2021, with a different language and mentality, and completely without a network, I didn’t even consider restarting anything related to theater or acting. I focused on looking for a job, did some behind-the-scenes production work, and felt stressed and isolated. This led me to seek something grounding, so in 2023, I returned to acting practices on my own. Then, almost by accident, I launched my first workshop in Amsterdam. Afterward, I was invited to host another workshop during an exhibition, and then another… Soon, I joined several theatrical projects, translated and edited my play, and finally started to feel like I had reconnected with myself. All of this happened within just one year!
In the spring of 2024, when I felt that I had more expertise and energy, I decided to create a project to help people develop their creative sides, connect with one another, and build connections between their bodies and voices.
Acting exercises hold great power—acting is about learning how to be human. It’s a dissection of human life and a way to explore our relationships with ourselves and others. Acting practice is a powerful tool to discover who you are, develop your body and voice, and learn about leadership, as well as your strengths and weaknesses. In the end, it’s also fun! These classes offer an escape from daily routines and serve as an excellent tool for stress relief.
I try to be very gentle in my approach, knowing from personal experience how the theater world can sometimes be. In my practices, I want to cultivate a healthy and friendly atmosphere by analyzing and reflecting on my own acting experiences, education, and training.
The most challenging part for me was the selection process—I received around 45 applications, and it was tough to choose 16 participants from so many highly motivated people. But I did it, and on September 7th, we had our first session. It was the perfect time to start the course! The night before, I had just returned from an artistic residency, bringing with me new exercises, ideas, and inspiration.
It is an honor for me to lead such a diverse group of individuals, and I feel both responsible and inspired to introduce them to the art of acting. I’m excited to share more thoughts and updates about this project with you soon.
